Sailing Conditions & Weather

At Torch Lake Windsurfing is located on beautiful Torch Lake in the northwestern corner of the lower peninsula of Michigan. We love our climate, but compared with other locations, our sailing season is short. We doubt that you'll want to sail much before Memorial Day, or after October 1.

Our really busy season is between the 4th of July and Labor Day. During this period, daily high temperatures will be in the 70's and 80's. Winds will be dependent on weather fronts, but generally will be lighter in the morning and build in the afternoon. In the middle of a high pressure system, winds may be light all day. When a front moves through, summer winds reach 15-25 knots - occasionally higher.

Torch Lake is one of the deepest lakes in Michigan, and thus is very slow to warm, so you may find relatively cool water early in the season.

All lessons and rentals are contingent on suitable weather.
